History
Community Choice, Inc. was started in 1998 by the founding partner, Scott Shepherd, MBA, under the name Brookside Health Staffing. The focus was providing Direct Care Staff to Providers of services to individuals with developmental disabilities in the Kansas City, Missouri area. In 2007, following growth, merger with another large diversified staffing company, and expansion into St. Louis, he partnered with Scott Ling, Psy.D., repurchasing it from the parent company, and reorganizing it as Community Choice, Inc. In 2009, the company became a licensed provider of Independent Supported Living through the Missouri Department of Mental Health and currently provides residential supports to several individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the St. Louis area. The company currently has offices in Kansas City, Missouri, and St. Louis, Missouri, through which it provides temporary staffing, training, and direct support services to individuals and other residential support agencies in need of these services.
Mission Statement
The Community Choice mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by ensuring that they have opportunities to achieve their greatest potential through quality residential living and staffing supports. People with disabilities should be treated with dignity and respect and should be allowed full rights to have meaningful participation in the community. We maintain the highest requirements of all employees who provide direct support services to treat individuals with respect and dignity and commit ourselves to know, understand, and meet consumers’ needs. These core values will be the centerpiece of how we shape our corporate culture, develop policies, and make decisions.
Purpose Statement
The purpose of our business is to help assure that individuals with disabilities receive the staffing support services they need, when they need them, to live more independently in the community. Our Agency is unique for its initial focus on hiring, training, and staffing direct support workers (DSP) for other providers of community-based services for people with disabilities. Using our expertise in recruiting and training DSPs, we are uniquely qualified to provide quality residential support services to consumers, families, and guardians who may choose Community Choice, Inc. as their provider. Our promise is that all Community Choice employees are properly screened and trained to assure that individuals we are assigned to work with are treated with respect and kept safe from any harm or danger.
Community Choice residential services meets the physical, behavioral, social needs of individuals wishing to live in the community. As long as we are stewards for individual lives, we assure that the environments they live in are both safe and stimulating. We train staff to understand how to meet the needs of individuals and then manage staff so that they feel supported in their jobs.
